The books that shaped me

When you open a new book, you open with it, a new world.

Some books are frivolous — you power through them on a long flight and put them away only to never pick them up again. And some books you buy in hard copy, display on your bookshelf, and read over and over again, noticing something different and more inspiring about them each time. To me a book has always transported me from the small confinements of my 250 square foot bedroom to a time or a land far away. I love getting lost in whatever world the author has created for me and forgetting about myself. Because books are time machines that have made it possible for me to transcend the humdrum and brush shoulders with the truly great of history. They are the crystal ball that allows me to peek into the future.

And these are those books. The books that have shaped my life a few syllables at a time. Or at the very least, inspired me to think outside of myself, my world, and my ideals, if only for a moment, if only for a while.

1. Slouching Towards Bethlehem

2. How the García Girls Lost Their Accent

3. The Best Of Everything

4. The Second Sex; Simone De Bouveair

5. The Bell Jar

6. White Teeth

7. Women Hollering Creek

8. The Picture Of Dorian Grey

9. Caramelo

10. Im Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter

Side Note:Harry Potter is the obvious first choice because the series as a whole means so much to me, but I’m sure you’re sick of me mentioning it. The Prisoner Of Azkaban means everything to me, out of the entire series its my favorite.

I hope these books bring you even of quarter of everything they’ve brought me.

Con Amor,
